Division 1 College softball is finally back and some exciting games are coming up. These teams are here to compete and they are the best of the best. In Week 6, the number one softball team is Oklahoma, number two is Texas, and number three is LSU, taking Florida’s spot. Even Though Oklahoma lost a lot of talented players, they are still on top. Oklahoma has won eight Women’s College World Series titles at Oklahoma City, winning four back-to-back. The team with the most titles is UCLA, which has twelve.
Oklahoma Head Coach, Patty Gasso, has been coaching since 1995. Gasso enjoys coaching with her son, JT Gasso, who joined the Sooners staff in 2015 after working as a graduate assistant for OU in 2012 and 2013. Oklahoma has a great coaching staff that have all played at a high level. The Sooners have a “new” team this year after losing their talented senior class. The seniors included Jayda Coleman, Tiare Jennings, Kinzie Hansen, and Rylie Boone. This “new” team has stepped up this year and is keeping that #1 spot.
Recent games have been very exciting but my favorite was Texas vs Florida. This game against the number two and four teams was close. Freshman pitcher, Katelynn Oxley, earned her first win, only allowing one run. Freshman, Taylor Shumaker, recorded the biggest hit of the night for the Gators; a two-RBI double that put Flordia ahead in the bottom of the third securing them the win 3-1. Florida pulled off this win and they are now 29-4. Let’s see who wins the Women’s College World Series this year.
