Freestyle or Freeride skiing? Both have their perks and both have their cons. Freestyle skiing is skiing in a terrain park with features like a box or rail. Freeride skiing is backcountry skiing in multi feet of powder with natural jumps and cliff drops.
Freestyle skiing is great for nice groomed runs with jumps and features built by park crew that are built for jumping. You will see man made jumps, boxes, rails, and wallrides. Some cons are not super long runs and you can’t make your own jump. Some pros are that there are huge jumps, features, lift access, and they are great to learn new tricks.
Freeride skiing is great for skiing glades, deep powder, and wide open bowls. There are natural features like jumps and cliff drops. Sometimes you could grind a downed tree like a rail. Some pros are skiing deep powder, long runs, natural features, building your own jump. Some cons are no lift access, not maintained, more dangerous, and very tiring.
Overall, both are lots of fun, but it’s a preference for which one is better. Freestyle skiing is better for learning tricks and progression. Freeride skiing is better for powder skiing with natural jumps.
